Frequently Asked Questions...How long does a session last? Each session lasts 50 minutes How regular must I attend? In counselling, the most common attendance is once weekly for either time limited / short-term therapy for an agreed time frame, or open-ended contracts. All contracts and durations are verbally agreed by both client and counsellor. Is my counselling completely confidential? Anything disclosed in your sessions will be held confidentially and all information or notes will be locked away securely. As part of the BACP's Ethical Framework, counsellors must be in regular supervision to work as effectively as possible as a means to hold the client's best interest as the primary focus. Discussion in supervision is always confidential. For example, your name and personal details will never be revealed. Only the issues of concern if they arise will be discussed with the supervisor. The only circumstance in which disclosure of information to a third party would be considered, is where the client or another person is thought to be at severe risk. However, in such instances, this would first be discussed with you, the client. What happens in the initial consultation? Our first meeting is a space for you to talk about your concerns and a chance for me to get some background information about you. At some point in our meeting we would also discuss what you would like to achieve from counselling, in terms of aims and goals as a possible focus for future sessions. This would also be an opportunity for you to decide if you feel comfortable with me to continue further sessions. It would also be a chance for me to assess if you would benefit from what I have to offer. If I feel that another therapist may be more qualified for your specific concerns, then I would endeavor to help you find that person more suitable. How much does it cost? A flat rate of £40 will apply for the initial consultation. If we decide to work together then the fee based on a sliding scale of between £30 and £45 will be decided according to your circumstances. Negotiable concessions are available for those on a low income. Rates for full time students and the unemployed are also available from £15 with evidence from students of a current student id or for the unemployed, a recent benefits booklet. |
